Children’s bedrooms are exciting and adventurous living spaces where they can learn to live and play. Understanding how to design your children’s bedroom is the trickiest part of the puzzle, but there are so many solutions that you can adopt to create the perfect environment for your child.

Whatever you decide for your child’s bedroom, you should never have to compromise on fun and enjoyable elements that spark joy for your child. Let’s take a look at some ideas to help design your kid’s bedroom:

Planning the Space

Designing a children’s bedroom is a real joy. There are many fun and colourful designs to play around with, but it’s important not to go overboard on big and bold features.

Firstly, consider what you need from the bedroom. Do you want it to be a play space, where your child can keep a plethora of toys and books? If so, create as much floor space as possible to allow for plenty of mess!

Plan storage around the bed and utilise underbed storage and headboard storage. This will help remove the need for bookshelves and other large pieces of furniture that will take up additional floor space.

When planning where to put the bed, ensure there is room for when your child grows. An upgrade to a larger bed is inevitable, so plan ahead and make it as easy as possible for yourself from the get go. Furniture should be planned around outlets, especially if they’re going to be fixed into place, like large wardrobes.

Wall Decor

As your children grow, their likes and interests are sure to change. Whilst there may be an array of amazing wallpaper designs that are perfect for your child right now, are they likely to want these in the future?

Instead of opting for eccentric wallpaper designs, look for neutral alternatives. Pastel colours are timeless, and complement many colours in a children’s bedroom. This helps remove the chance of clashing colours from other bedroom furniture and features of your child’s bedroom.

This doesn’t mean that there aren’t more suitable options available to suit your child’s unique interests. Peelable wall decals are a fantastic solution for short-term hobbies and interests, and do not affect the longevity of your child’s bedroom design. These are widely available on the online market, and cover a vast array of interests and topics so you can find the perfect solutions for your child.

Little fingers are likely to mark and dirty walls in your child’s bedroom. If there is plenty of wall-space on show, you might want to opt for a wipeable, washable paint – especially in favour of wallpaper. This means you can wash any marks as they happen, and keep on top of any mess!

Bedroom Flooring

Children are messy little creatures. Drinks will be spilled, and food will be trodden into the toughest of carpets – it’s inevitable! So, when it comes to planning your children’s bedroom flooring, finding the perfect solution is imperative.

More traditional homes may feature hardwood floorboards. Whilst these provide a lovely aesthetic, they are not ideal for small children. Gaps in the floor invite the opportunity for trapped toes and fingers, and it goes without saying that many bits and bobs will be posted down there (either on purpose or by accident). Hardwood floors also offer the perfect canvas for children to draw and colour. If reflooring your children’s bedroom isn’t an option, there are many large rugs available that can cover primary floor spaces, and help prevent risks posed from floorboards.

On the contrary, soft carpets are ideal for little children’s feet. They are perfect for crawling toddlers as they are great for their soft hands and feet. If you want to protect your carpets from dirt and stains, opt for a playful rug! Your little one may even be more enticed to play on the rug over the carpet.

Make the most of storage solutions

Children’s bedroom storage is one of the most important parts of the bedroom design. You want to leave as much space as possible for your children to play and grow, but they also need an ideal amount of storage space to store all of their toys and books. Thankfully there are many creative ways to overcome this challenge.

Utilise taller storage spaces. Tall and thin bookshelves take up less floor space but still offer a wealth of storage space. Floating shelves are perfect for books and other trinkets that need to be kept out of reach. Underbed storage is also perfect for toys and clothes.

Children’s bedroom storage doesn’t just have to be functional! Decorate bedroom storage and furniture to match the aesthetic of your child’s bedroom. Use stickers and paint to make your child’s bedroom truly unique. You can even use chalkboard paint to turn otherwise blank surfaces into creative hubs for your little one to draw and enjoy!

Planning your children’s bedroom design doesn’t have to be difficult. No matter how small your child’s bedroom is, there are plenty of opportunities and solutions to create the perfect space for them.

From the first moment when Arthur came round to advise, measure-up and quote for the job we felt we were in good hands. And his team of installers provided the best service. I always think that the best test is if something needs further attention and in this case they returned promptly to fix a small issue and nothing was too much trouble. Our new doors have transformed the back of our house and we highly recommend this company for work of the highest quality. Thank you Arthur and team!

We got our back and front doors replaced by E&A Windows and we couldn't be happier with the job they did. Erez was so helpful as took the time to come to our home to give us a quote, explaining all our options thoroughly and clearly without being pressuring in the slightest. The quality of both doors was fantastic and Adrian’s installation was fast and completed to a very high standard. He was also very helpful. We would highly recommend E&A Windows and will definitely use them again for any future double glazing needs. Thanks so much!

Very professional service! During my initial consultation, I was fortunate enough to deal with the owner of the company. He visited my property and spent a few hours talking me through design options and his recommendations. His recommendations were very insightful and ensured my build looked elegant and modern while retaining the functionality required for an active family of 4. The build process was equally professional with the construction team arriving when they said, treating my property with respect and cleaning up after they finished each day...something not often done by today's tradesmen. I've recommend this company to my parents.

I have just had new windows installed by E&A Windows and I must say I was very impressed. Arthur the owner of the company was so helpful and supportive throughout the process. I don't know much about windows so was skeptical at first, but I felt at ease very quickly. The guys who came to fit the windows (John, Christie and Peter) were absolute legends. They were extremely friendly and so so helpful, and the respect they gave me, my elderly parents and our home was exceptional. They took care of our home as if it was their own. I have never come across such professionals, not only did they do a fantastic job , but they went well beyond, seemed like nothing was impossible. They were with us only for 3 days but my parents were actually sad to see them go. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to fit new windows.
